Red Cracked Rice

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Carolina Gold rice
  • 1/2 cup oil, plus more for finishing
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons of granulated garlic
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons sage
  • 1 quart tomato sauce
  • 3 cups water
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground pepper

Instructions

  • Cook rice according to package directions
  • In a medium saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the granulated garlic and sage.
  • Stir im tomato sauce and water and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes. Taste and add salt and pepper as needed. Cook for 30 minutes more.
  • Preheat the oven to 275 degrees F.
  • Mix the rice and sauce in a pan or Dutch oven, then bake for 30 minutes.
  • Fluff with a fork and add a splash of oil at the end, if desired.
