types of environments
Environments are our surroundings. These have two main categories
- Where we are
- Who we talk to
Where we are There are lots of "layers" to our physical environment.
- home
- neighborhood
- city
I think an important one for me is your home. I have lots of hobbies, so having space to perform those in is meaningful to me.
We can also expand to where we live. The street our residence is on. The nearby shops, restaurants, and leisure activites. The views we get of our city.
We can also expand to where we live geographically.
The place we live truly shapes us.
Breaking these down in terms of impact People have different priorities. If you are gunning to move to NYC, you will likely sacrifice the quality of your home improvement for an improvement in your city environment.
When we choose where we live, we also in some way choose the people around us, which brings me to the next category of environment.
When is right mother fucking now integrate this thought more elegantly
The people around Friends shape us. We learn things from them, do the same activities, laugh at the same jokes. We tend to share the same values which has rippling impacts on many avenues of life.
We also choose our friends. Maybe you have a couple friends you don't feel like you chose but by and large we don't really hang out with people we don't want to clean up previous thought
Workplace is also important as it's where we spend a majority of waking hours. I am not a believer that our workplace fundamentally changes our character (like friends do) but nonetheless it is a key piece of our environment.
The one I'm wrestling with right now is the third one, where you live. Because in a big way that shapes the who and what of your life. If you are closer to certain people they will be a bigger part of your environment. Certain jobs and hobbies (what you do) are 100% shaped by where you live.
I set out on this van life journey to kind of answer the what's next in my life. And beyond the seeing many cities and people around the country, it's a perfect example of why environment matters so much.
somehow add an example of how living in a van is a good example cuz I like "do different stuff" with it? Like habits and what not change
